The place for birdwatching

Where and how to watch birds in Latvia, near Riga and Jurmala

Birdwatching improves mental and physical health

Watch the birds and listen to the birdsong

Imagine: a forest edge with birch and pine trees around, the leaves are rustling in the breeze, bird feeders are hanging on the trees and many different species of birds chirping… Such a delight to watch! Nowadays birdwatching, or birding (a form of wildlife observation), is becoming a popular recreational activity in the whole world, as well as in Latvia.

Places for birdwatching in the natural environment

It is best to watch birds in their natural habitat. In the forest near the manor “Lilac Yard” we installed feeders for birds and roe deer, as well as about 100 birdhouses, artistically painted by hand. The number of birds near the manor is increasing each year. In addition, there are also domestic birds – chickens at the “Lilac Yard.” The chickens are fed only natural food without synthetic and industrial additives.

Apart from the birds, there are other wild animals like squirrel, hare, roe deer, weasel, mink, and wild boar which can also be seen at the “Lilac Yard.” In the morning and in the evening one can enjoy the croaking of green frogs’ “orchestra” near the pond. As you might know, frogs can live only in an ecologically clean environment.

“Lilac Yard”–the place for birdwatching!
